Newquay Harbour Beach

Newquay North Cornwall
Newquay harbour beach is a picturesque location, sheltered by the tall cliffs behind and the harbour walls jutting in to the sea. Newquay harbour remains a busy fishing port with pleasure and fishing trips running regularly throughout the tourist season. Often when the boats are approaching the harbour there are seals bobbing about in the water hoping some fish may come their way! At high tide the beach is inaccessible but the harbour walls are a perfect spot to try some crabbing which is great fun for all the family.

The beach stretches all the way to the edge of the harbour walls at low tide, allowing you to walk around the boats moored there. Newquay Harbour beach is the smallest of all the beaches in Newquay and has no surf, although nearby Towan beach, which is located to the right of the harbour walls is often busy with surfers. Newquay Harbour beach is more popular with families for its calm waters, great for paddling or seeing what you can find in your fishing net.

Fish, lobster and crab are landed here daily and you'll see evidence of this all around the area, with giant lobster pots stacked up against the walls and the fishermen hard at work. The Newquay Fish Festival takes place annually in September and is a great opportunity to sample the local catch and learn more about the history of fishing in Newquay. If you look up on Towan head you will see the Huer's Hut, which featured in The Beatles Magical Mystery Tour film, from here historically the 'Huer' would watch for Pilchard shoals and call to the fishermen when they were spotted.

Easy, a slipway leads on to the beach

There's limited parking in the harbour which adjoins the beach or there's a choice of well signposted car parks in Newquay town.
