The Lizard West Cornwall
Cadgwith is located on the eastern side of the Lizard Penisula, nestled between the neighbouring fishing villages of Coverack and Lizard Point. Cadgwith is a special place, you would be forgiven for thinking you'd stepped back in time upon entering the village. The narrow, winding lanes leading down to Cadgwith Cove are lined with traditional whitewashed fisherman's cottages, many of which are thatched.

Cadgwith has a small, shingley beach and still operates as a working harbour, albeit far quieter than during the 19th-century when fishing was the main industry in the area. You can sit and watch the old fisherman working and pulling their boats in, much as they would have done centuries ago. You can buy fresh catch of the day at the harbour or sample the fresh food on offer at the Cadgwith Cove Inn which is steeped in history. The pub is a lovely place to experience proper Cornish community spirit, it remains at the heart of the village with photos of Cadgwith through the centuries lining the walls, demonstrating that not a lot has changed here. In 1904, an amazing and record holding 1,798,000 pilchards were landed at Cadgwith Cove in just four days! Nowadays, a few boats still operate from Cadgwith, mainly bringing in catches of Spider Crabs, Brown Crabs, Shark, Lobster and Monkfish.

All around this beautiful narrow cove are reminders of the past. Surrounded by the most beautiful scenic landscape which is in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), it is a perfect place to explore the coast path by foot. If you head towards Lizard Point, you will come across a fascinating feature in the cliffs known locally as 'The Devils Frying Pan' where the roof of a cave has collapsed. During stormy seas, the water in the cave appears to boil dramatically.

The climate at Cadgwith is mild all year around, with Spring and Autumn a lovely time to visit, when you can truly absorb the ambience of this peaceful and historic location.
