The busy port of Newlyn harbours the second largest fishing fleet in the country. A town of charming granite cottages and narrow streets, there is a working museum, The Pilchard Works, several art galleries, and an impressive annual display of Christmas lights. Artists started going to Newlyn in the 1880's, attracted by the special quality of light in this part of Cornwall. The Newlyn Art Gallery, opened in 1895, exhibits work by living artists.
