Port Eliot

Saltash South Cornwall 01503 230211
Set in stunning fairytale grounds nestled beside a secret estuary in South East Cornwall, Port Eliot is an ancient hidden gem. The estate has the rare distinction of being a Grade 1 Listed house with a Grade 1 park and garden.

Once a monastery, the house was remodelled by Sir John Soane during the 18th century as the ancestral seat of the Eliot family, the head of which being the Earl of St Germans. The house's contents and furnishings now reflect the accumulations of 30 generations of the ever prospering Eliot family. Amongst the collections are interesting pieces of museum quality furniture, including an early Boule armoire. Artistic treasures within the house include masterpieces by Sir Joshua Reynolds and Van Dyck.

The estate's park and garden landscaped by Humphrey Repton span 6,000 acres.

There are a number of popular events and festivals are held throughout the year, including the four day Port Eliot festival which replaced the historic Elephant Fayre named after the Eliot family crest.
