Summerleaze Beach

Bude North Cornwall
Summerleaze is the most popular beach in Bude on the north coast of Cornwall, close to the Devon border. Only a five minute walk from Bude town centre, Summerleaze beach has a large expanse of sand at low tide and plenty of activities to keep the whole family entertained. Recommended for its excellent water quality by the Marine Conservation Good beach guide in 2014, Bude is also a popular beach for surfing.

A small bathing pool was carved into the rocks on Summerleaze beach and opened in 1930. It naturally fills with sea water and provides safe, calm water to play in. There's also a canal which runs to the final lock before meandering across the beach and out to sea, perfect for young children to splash about in. The local activity centres offer a huge variety of coastal activities and outdoor pursuits including surfing, kayaking, coasteering and sea fishing.

In the 18th century the breakwater was built off Summerleaze beach to protect the harbour from the full force of the Atlantic Ocean and help the boats navigate the entrance. You can walk over to the original watchtower, known locally as the 'Pepper Pot' at Compass Point to overlook Bude from beyond the waves.
