The Bowgie Inn

Crantock Newquay North Cornwall 01637 830363
Cornwall is renowned for its stunning coastal locations and dramatic seascapes, and if you haven't visited The Bowgie Inn in Crantock, near Newquay, you're yet to see the best.

Situated on West Pentire Headland overlooking the stunning Crantock Bay, sandwiched between the unspoiled beaches of Crantock and Porth 'Polly' Joke, the views from this famous pink pub will take your breath away. You can even see what the view looks like before you go, using The Bowgie's incredible Surfcam live streaming real-time pictures of Crantock beach:

The 'Bowgie' which is Cornish for 'cowshed' is well-known and loved, with parts of the Inn dating back to the 18th Century. With its low beamed ceilings, traditional features and character by the bucketload, The Bowgie has been welcoming generations of customers who have been visiting for years - many people hold a special place in their heart for the pink pub.

The Bowgie is a pioneering business and in 2017, took a stand against plastic straws by joining the Final Straw Campaign. It has since banned all single-use plastic straws in a bid to cut down on plastic and minimising its impact on our seas and beaches, leading the way for other businesses in Cornwall and across the country.

A 'Taste of the West' Silver Award winner, The Bowgie's traditional menu includes prime selected ingredients, Cornish produce, local ales and ciders like Mena Dhu and Rattler, well-chosen wines including Camel Valley Brut, acclaimed luxury hot chocolates and of course, the pub's famous Roast Dinner served all day on Sundays (bring your appetite, the portions are BIG!) Owners Sally and Andy Pickles are passionate about supporting local businesses, championing as much Cornish food and drink produce as possible.

The Bowgie has recently launched a brand new brunch, available from 11am-3pm every Saturday. In collaboration with Cornish Butcher James Kittow, the brunch features in the new 'A Taste of the West Country' recipe book by the Taste of the West Awards and was the brainchild of The Bowgie's Grill Chef; Richard Killingbeck. Using all prime Cornish produce, you'll tuck into a Beef Burger, Hog's Pudding, Proper Job Ale Sausages, Black Pudding, Tomato, Free-Range Eggs, Mushrooms and Sauteed Potato Wedges. All for just £10, the Bowgie Brunch also includes a refillable tea or coffee, or a bottle of orange juice or tomato juice. You can even take the recipe home with you - 'Taste of the West Country' is available to buy from The Bowgie.

You'll want to take a stroll to burn off the calories and it's just a short mooch from The Bowgie to the South West Coast Path which takes you on a circular walk of the headland. On route, you will taste the wild Atlantic Ocean, watch seabirds at play and you'll even spot a seal or two if you're lucky. You can also take the short path to Crantock beach which is truly stunning with white sand and clear, blue waters. Even in the Winter when the waves are rough and the wind is howling, it's the most perfect coastal walk pub.

As a longstanding supporter of Cornwall Hospice Care, a charity providing specialist care to people living with life limiting illnesses, Sally organises various events throughout the year to raise money for the cause and to date, has fundraised over £40,000. Furthermore, Sally embarks on her own personal expeditions to support the charity and was even invited to meet HRH The Earl of Wessex on his visit to Cornwall Hospice Care in 2015. In October 2017, she trekked the Great Wall of China with her daughter Tish, which follows previous expeditions in the Sahara Desert, to Mount Everest Base Camp and Mount Kilimanjaro.

Perhaps The Bowgie's most famous fundraising event is their Ale and Cider Festival, held every year on the August Bank Holiday weekend. Pop up marquees, bunting, stages and sound-systems help to turn The Bowgie's cliff-top location into a buzzing festival site, a treat for the senses with views over Crantock beach, the smell of fresh pasties in the air and music to entice everyone to the dance-floor. There's certain events in a year which you simply would NOT want to miss, and this is one of them! Whether you're a local or a visitor, The Bowgie offers four days of fantastic live music, awesome food, over 60 different Cornish ales and ciders to try, fundraising activities, face painting, competitions and so much more - make sure 24th-27th August 2018 is in your diary!

Another unmissable annual event is The Bowgie's famous Grunge Night, a 'throw-back' to their iconic 'Friday Night Disco'. The legendary disco night first started in the early eighties and ran for over 15 years, had a huge following with people attending from all over Cornwall and was the only place to be on a Friday night. Think Nirvana, Lemonheads, Sound Garden and Rolling Stones blasting from the speake... on Friday 28th September 2018 - you know where to be!

The Bowgie broadcasts all major terrestrial sporting events on high definition 70 inch screens, so you won’t miss a second of the action. They even ask visitors to share their photos of Crantock and the local area on their social media pages which then appear in a 'Wall of Fame' shown on the giant TVs.

The Bowgie is open everyday from 11am, serving food from 11am-3pm and evening meals from 5pm-9pm on week days, and all day at the weekends and during school holidays. Whether you're after lunch, dinner, a quick snack, coffee and cake, a romantic meal for two, a child friendly venue or a simple cold pint after work, you'll find it ALL at The Bowgie.

With a large private car park right outside the door, this must-visit Cornish treasure is accessible for all. Sit outside with a cider on a sunny day or curl up with a cuppa by the real log fires when it's cold, here's a pub which is perfect any day of the year.
